It's hard to believe that we've been in Delaware for just over 3 months!
Work we have done on the house:
1. All new exterior doors
2. All new interior doors
3. 2 flights of stairs and the entire upstairs carpet removed and hardwoods refinished (we paid someone to do the refinishing)
4. New carpet in the family room and basement
5. New paint in the family room
6. Master bedroom: stripped wallpaper, painted, made a headboard, added custom closets
7. Dining room: wallpaper stripped, trim painted from oak to white, ceiling repaired (medallion removed!!!)
8. Baby Bird's room decorated
9. Half bath wallpaper stripped and walls repaired and painted
Things we're plotting:
1. 2010: Living room done by next Friday when we have furniture and a piano being delivered...right now it's a mess and everything is in pretty rough shape but we're hopeful we can meet our deadline!
2. 2010: Hallway: the hallway runs through the whole house and needs to be stripped of wallpaper and painted
3. 2011: Master bath renovation: as much as we love the swan etched in glass on our tiny shower door, the plan is to strip the bath of all wall tile and sheet rock and rebuild a very basic shower and leave the bathroom without
4. 2011: Kitchen: the next setting for battle oak...we have tons of oak cabinets that are very well made, but the finish not consistent with what I want in my kitchen. The plan is to paint or re stain them, replace all appliances, and possibly replace the counter top and floor.
5. 2011: Raised bed garden for veggies and flowers.
Big Bird accomplished a very exciting feat this past weekend involving our attic...because our house is multi-level, we have 2 attics and there is only visible access to one of the attics. When we had our home inspection completed even the inspector could not figure out how to access the attic over the main floor (kitchen, living room, and dining room). We have removed the ceiling fan in the living room and big Bird decided to cut a hole large enough to go up so he could move the electrical box for our new light fixture that is going to hang in front of the fireplace. When he got into the attic he found a huge access point to the attic...behind the bathroom mirror in the hall bathroom! You take out 4 screws and there's a panel that's large enough for 2 people to climb through! Too bad our house is not really really old or we could plot how it was a stop on the underground railroad or something cool. I'm pretty sure the previous owners just needed a way to get into the attic so they set up the interesting access we have. What an education home ownership is!
